PE

Intent

At Park Primary School, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum aims to inspire all children to enjoy being active and to develop healthy habits that last a lifetime. We provide a high-quality, inclusive PE curriculum aligned with the Early Learning Goals and the National Curriculum.

Our curriculum develops pupils’ physical literacy by building fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance, coordination and endurance, enabling children to participate confidently in a wide range of activities. We promote healthy lifestyles by helping pupils understand the importance of regular exercise, hydration, nutrition and personal wellbeing.

PE also supports personal development by encouraging teamwork, resilience, leadership and sportsmanship through both cooperative and competitive activities. We create an environment where every child can succeed, regardless of ability, by celebrating personal achievement and promoting confidence, motivation and emotional wellbeing.

Implementation

Our PE curriculum is carefully sequenced so that skills are revisited and developed over time. Pupils take part in a broad range of activities including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming and outdoor adventure activities, alongside health-related fitness such as yoga.

Lessons are delivered by PE specialists alongside class teachers to ensure high-quality teaching and consistent practice. Staff benefit from regular professional development to strengthen subject knowledge and teaching approaches.

Inclusive practice is central to our delivery. Activities are adapted through differentiation, equipment and peer support to ensure all pupils can participate fully, including those with additional needs.

We enhance learning through a wide range of extracurricular clubs, competitions and sporting events, with pupils encouraged to share their interests. Strong links with local sports clubs provide further opportunities, pathways and community involvement.

Assessment is ongoing and focuses on observation, discussion, self-reflection and peer feedback. This informs teaching and supports pupils in setting personal goals.

Impact

As a result, pupils show high levels of engagement, confidence and physical competence. PE supports positive mental wellbeing, teamwork and leadership. Many pupils continue to be active beyond school, becoming role models within the school and wider community. Park Primary pupils leave with the skills, confidence and motivation to lead healthy, active lives.
